U.S. stocks fell Friday following lackluster earnings reports from some of the country’s biggest banks and weaker-than-expected economic data, deepening a winter selloff.

All three major indexes opened Friday lower before recovering from their early-session lows. The S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average remained stuck in the red, down 0.1% and 0.6%, respectively, while the Nasdaq Composite swung higher, gaining 0.4%.
